DDR3 RAM NOW AFFORDABLE
The next generation of computer memory has now reached affordable levels. For some time now the memory in a computer has been one of the slowest components. This next generation of memory will typically run at 170% of the speed of DDR2 memory. DDR3 has been around for a while but it has been so expensive and tempremantal that the benefit could rerely be justified. We now use this memory as standard on all our new machines. Beware many big retailes still stock computers using the older, slower memory so if you are planning on buying elsewhere check first.
NEW OFFSITE BACKUP SERVICE
We all now that backing up is a necessity and there are several methods available:
- Online - a program copies all your data to a secure website should your computer die. This can be expensive (around 50p per Gigabyte per month) making 200Gbs cost £1200 per year. and slow as even the best broadband would take 2.5 hours per gigabyte to upload.
- External hard drive - very cheap and relatively quick but how many people keep one off-site incase of fire?
- DVD- even cheaper but once a single file changes the whole disk needs re-burning.
One further issues all these methods have is that they only backup your data. of the hard drive completely dies then windows and your programs will need reinstalling before you can consider restoring your data.
Here at The Webworks we ahve come up with something a bit different. We make an exact clone of your entire hard drive and store it in a fire and water proof safe and should your hard drive die we simply fit the backup drive and you are up and running in minutes. the cost of this? there is an annual fee of £35 which includes the first clone, then whenever you want your machine re-cloned £10 and then should the worst happen you simply pay for the backup hard drive which is currently £60 for a 1000 Gb model (Larger sizes are available).
